Monterey Hostel is operated by HostelingOn, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Our mission is to preserve and promote the hostel movement. Hostels offer affordable, eco-friendly lodging that makes travel and educational experiences accessible to students and young families.

Expand Volunteer Programming & Keep the Coast Accessible
For more than 20 years, a hostel welcomed school groups, young California families, and travelers to Monterey Bay until the pandemic forced it to close. In response, a nonprofit called HostelingOn was established to save the hostel, reopening Monterey Hostel in spring 2024.
Today, we welcome about 10,000 guests each year through affordable lodging, cultural exchange, and community programs. Our efforts ensure that students, families, and service-driven organizations who are often priced out of the Monterey Peninsula can still experience and learn about the Central Coast.
