Monterey Hostel offers clean, safe, and memorable overnight lodging where travelers can connect with one another, share resources to reduce their impact on the planet, and experience the natural beauty of the Central Coast. We are a nonprofit lodging provider committed to making Monterey Bay more accessible by offering communal and private lodging to school groups, families, and travelers.

We are operated by HostelingOn, a 501(c)3 nonprofit on a mission to preserve and promote the hostel movement. Hostels help connect people of all ages and cultures so they can experience and learn about local communities through travel, shared adventures, and sustainable tourism.

Since 2000, the property occupying the former Carpenter’s Union Hall has operated as a non-profit hostel with the purpose of helping make the Monterey Peninsula more accessible to all, though especially younger travelers. Hostels are visitor accommodation facilities that offer more-affordable sleeping options such as shared dormitories and private accommodations. Emphasis is placed on shared amenities like a community kitchen, open workspaces, and lounge areas. Guests share resources while traveling to reduce their impact on the planet.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO HOSTING YOU SOON!

The previous hostel was a reputable partner in the neighborhood funneling around 10,000 youthful travelers and school groups to local businesses and attractions each year. Unfortunately, the operation was unable to survive the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 due to challenging economic conditions and an unadaptable layout of its facility.

Monterey Hostel offers a clean, safe, and memorable space where travelers can connect with one another, share resources to reduce their impact on the planet, and experience the natural beauty of the Central Coast. We are a nonprofit lodging provider committed to making Monterey Bay more accessible. We invite you to stay with us, and stay with a purpose!

EXPLORE

Whether you’re here for the aquarium, great food, or amazing nature to explore, Monterey has a lot to offer! Thankfully, we’re in the middle of it all.
